Best Way to See Canada

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

The world is moving at an increasingly faster and faster pace. Technological advances are happening so rapidly that most people have given up on trying to keep up with them. Business and society are adapting and evolving along with that technology and it does seem as if individuals are constantly in a rush to catch up — let alone stay current — with everything.

A good vacation is going to take people away from that rush of change and evolution. The best way to accomplish that is to take the focus away from cities and technology and instead look to nature. Canada is a great place to do this because of its size and incredible landscape. A train trip in Canada will allow travelers to leisurely explore the country and slow down the pace of their life, if only for a little while.

The main advantage of train travel is that it provides for a slow appreciation of the natural wonders of a country. Instead of flying over it or seeing it from busy lumbering highways, trains put visitors right in the middle of the natural landscape. Touring Canada in this manner will give visitors days of watching the Rocky Mountains or the Canadian seacoast or the great prairies — all from the comfort of a modern train. Best of all, the train will make multiple stops along the way to allow travelers to get out and experience the landscape up close.

Poker Capital is Vegas

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Is there any question that Las Vegas is the poker capital of the world? The city’s many casinos offer more poker tables than anywhere else and it is virtually impossible to count all the tournaments that are held in the city each year, mostly because the schedule is constantly being updated with new events. If slots were the game of choice of the past, poker is clearly the city’s future.

The various hotels in Las Vegas all offer some form of gambling, usually including a poker table or two. A hotel that couldn’t hold on to its gambling license probably wouldn’t stay in business long. People staying at the encore las vegas expect to be able to play poker and other games.

The internet has made poker games more popular than in the past. The rise of cable television has also played a role, as televised poker tournaments can be found on some channel or other virtually all the time. The more games people watch, the more they play online, the more they believe that they need to play in Vegas. Win or lose, they want to test their mettle against the big players in Vegas, just so they can say they had the experience once in their life.

Elements of Travel Insurance

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

The insurance industry has exploded from simply offering car, life, and home insurance to providing specialty insurance for just about any conceivable life occurrence. The ability to protect yourself, your family and your property from problems when in a foreign country is the reason that Bajaj Allianz travel insurance and similar policies exist.

Travel insurance has two main components. The first is the actual travel element. These provisions cover problems associated with travel itself. This includes lost luggage and travel documents as well as assistance dealing with travel delays due to weather, strikes, or political unrest. There are even provisions in these polices for terrorist attacks and for death benefits to be paid to the insured’s survivors.

The other major part of travel insurance is health coverage. This is very similar to the medical insurance most people have in their home country. It provides them with access to medical treatment if they should fall ill or be injured while in a foreign country. Premiums will vary depending on the extent of coverage purchased and the country or countries being visited. Those on longer trips, for study or work, can even get preventative care and pre-existing conditions covered.

While it is possible to get each component of travel insurance separately, it is much more cost effective and convenient to purchase a comprehensive policy that includes everything.

Vancouver Can be Fun for Families

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Parents trying to plan a family vacation can be easily distracted by popular destinations such as Disney, SeaWorld, SixFlags, and even the new Harry Potter theme park. Crowded, commercial destinations like these may appeal to the imaginations of children, but they can be hard on a family’s pocketbook as well as hard on the patience, with long lines, extensive merchandising and overpriced food. Instead try to plan a self-designed vacation to less-crowded destinations such as Vancouver, British Columbia.

Vancouver has lots to offer families, from affordable Vancouver hotels to a plethora of free and low cost activities. If your family enjoys the outdoors you can spend days just hanging out in the city’s many parks and beaches. Some of the more family-friendly include Ambleside Park and Ambleside Beach Park as well as Queen Elizabeth Park which is also home to the Blodel Conservatory .

Granville Island is a terrific outing for families with a free water park in the summer months, plenty of picnic spots, play areas and a Kid’s Market as well as regular shops, restaurants and cafes. It also offers a sea village of floating houses. Lynn Canyon has a spectacular Suspension Bridge, hiking trails, and an Ecology Centre.

The Ether Dome and Monument in Boston

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

The Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s ride, Edgar Allen Poe’s home — Boston is packed with historical events ranging from politics, revolution and literature. It’s also the site of one of medical science’s great advancements, the first time anesthesia was used in a surgical procedure. It happened on October 16, in 1846, and it’s possible to visit the site by heading over to Massachusetts General Hospital and taking an elevator to the fourth floor. There, you will discover the Ether Dome.

The Ether Dome is a large medical lecture hall, illuminated through a skylight, and it’s here that dentist Thomas W.G. Morton administered ether as Dr. John Collins Warren operated on a man named Gilbert Abbott, cutting a tumor from his neck. On each seat in the hall, there are brass plaques that describe the important participants in the discovery of ether. Today, lectures and meetings take place here. You’ll also find an Egyptian mummy, a skeleton, and a marble statue of Apollo, who was the god medicine, as well as a host of other disciplines, such as prophecy, healing, plague, music, poetry, and the arts.

Travelers staying at hotels in Boston who are hospital-shy may instead visit a 40 foot tall marble and granite Ether Monument , the oldest statue in the Public Garden, which was set in place in 1868, twenty years after the operation, while people still debated if Morton really was the first to use ether for this purpose.

Boston’s Share Our Strength

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

Share Our Strength works to ensure that no kid is hungy. In Boston the Operation Frontline Massachusetts has been providing nutrition-based cooking classes to low-income families for nearly 15 years. The program offers families the knowledge and resources to bypass the fast food and ready made options that dominate our fast and easy society. Instead it focuses on teaching families how to cook delicious and nutritious meals that fit the time constraints and limited budgets of those struggling to survive. The result is healthier children with lowered chances of succombing to the growing obesity epidemic .

This November, Bostonians will have the opportunity to support this important program with a special tasting event, A Taste of the Holidays, at the Clarke Luxury Appliance Showroom in Milford. The finest Bostonian restaurants along with eateries from Milford and Worcester will offer their finest dishes along with fine beers and wines to benefit Share Our Strength. Anyone planning to be in New England on November 11th should consider stepping out of Boston boutique hotels to enjoy the culinary work of some of the area’s best chefs. There will also be a silent auction. Organizers have promised that 100% of the proceeds will go to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry goal to end child hunger in America.

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Hong Kong is a great city in China, and it represents cultural traditions of the country as well as demonstrates a progressive society that distinguishes it among its peers. Hong Kong itself is unique in that it is not only a city in China it is also its own autonomy. It is one of two special administrative regions, known as an SAR in China and as such its atmosphere is unique and progressive while also maintaining a strong sense of cultural tradition. This is a great aspect for any city and this dynamic atmosphere ties the past and the present so that great cultural and traditions are not lost, but also there is a strong sense of a progressive contemporary climate.

Some of the more traditional attractions in Hong Kong are among some of the favorite visitation destinations for Western tourists. An Intercontinental hotel Hong Kong is representative of the cultural diversity of the city. Hong Kong demonstrates a diversity of culture without sacrificing its connection to the past, and this is just one of the reasons the city is so appealing to Western tourists. The combination of great history and present society is immediately evident in the city’s architecture. There are about 7,650 sky scrappers in Hong Kong and it has an incredibly cityscape. And it is becoming one of the main world centers of modern architecture. Lovely Restaurants in Stockholm

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

There are many wonderful restaurants in the elegant city of Stockholm Sweden. As with any large city, the culture is worldly and there are many different kinds of cuisine to enjoy. There are some world class chefs and their staffs waiting to dish up something amazing for everyone.

Not far from the Stockholm hotels visitors will find some rather historical restaurants located in very old buildings. Take the restaurant Prinsen as a great example of history in the culinary life of Stockholm.  Prinsen has been a running restaurant for over a hundred years. It was managed by Augusta Forsberg for the first 70 years of its existence who’s focus was to make sure that the restaurant with stood the test of time. A real treasure.

Another elegant restaurant is the Den Gyldene Freden which also serves up some wonderful European and Scandinavian cuisine in a very historical old town neighborhood. This building and restaurant have been in service since 1722 which makes it a wonderful landmark to the city as well. Just taking the journey down the alleyways of the historical city to get to the restaurant will spark ones imagination to what it was like so many years ago. Fantastic.

Wine in Cape Town

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Oh, there is nothing like finding the local wineries when visiting a new area. South Africa has been putting out some notable wines recently and there are some great Cape Town Wine Tours that one may want to catch while visiting the city.

The tours of the wine country can be tailored to fit your party whether it is two people or ten there is a way to get out and see the rolling hills of vines. It is often fun for a couple of people to catch a tour with others. It’s a chance to meet people who have the same interests. There are also private tours that can be arranged so you will have the wine guide all to your self.

The Cape Town hotels can also steer you in the direction of other tours of the country side. There are plenty of places to stop along the way that have fresh cheese, chocolate and olive treats so if your not into wine than you can go along for the other tastings from the hills.

This might be a nice day trip to take before hitting the big time safari. Better stock up on some gourmet sandwiches before you hit the dusty rugged road filled with wild animals.
